Earthquake in Haiti by Hannah S.

A major Earthquake struck southern Haiti on Tuesday, hitting buildings and power lines. Several witnesses reported dead bodies in the streets of the capital, Port-au-Prince, were concrete-block homes line steep hill sides. There was no estimate of the dead and wounded Tuesday evening, but the U.S. State Department has been told to expect “serious loss of life,” department spokesman P.J. Crowley told reporters in Washington. Outside the capital, several people were hurt when they rushed to get out of a school in the southwestern city of Les Cayes, said the Rev. Kesner Ajax, the school’s executive director. Two homes in the area collapsed and the top of a church collapsed in a nearby town, he said, but he did not know of any fatalities. You could help Haiti by donating money to them. They need your help right now!

1) Who do you think should go down to help the people in Haiti?

2) What would you do if a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck in our location?

  1. First off I will say this article was very well written and I liked the picture a lot. I think that first we should have doctors help cure the people of Haiti and find them too. Then when all thought bodies are found house builder people can go in and build houses. If that magnitude hit our location I would probably be devastated because I love my town, house, neighbors, and family and those could all be gone with that kind of earthquake.

  2. Great article. I think that we should bring docters and builders to cure Haiti and Haiti’s people. I understand how horrible the earthquake in Haiti was but I think it would be worse here. I think this because we are the people that gave so much to Haiti. Who would give us what we need if this happend to us?

  3. Good Job, Hannah!!! I agree with Amanda that we should send down doctors and builders. The doctors can help the people. While the builders can build homes and other buildings to start restoring Haiti. If we had as much damage to our homes as Haiti did, i think it would be worse here. We gave so many things to Haiti that we would have one less country giving us items of relief. But I think that if it did hit here it would do less damage here because our buildings are built stronger. I think you did a great job on your article!
